SESSION NEWS
as posted in the December 2006 Newsletter
Knoxs Session, the principal governing body of the Church, in an effort
to communicate more fully with the congregation, has decided to publish the
highlights of its meetings in the Newsletter. Full copies of the minutes from
previous meetings are available in the church office.
This report will cover the meetings of October 16 and Nov. 27.
The Session was informed by Pastor Hale of the passing of Ed Dinkins.
Services were held for Ed on Nov. 10 and 17.
Other matters presented in the Pastors Report were the celebration
of Communion on Oct. 1 and Nov. 3; report on the Thanksgiving Eve Community
Worship Service at Knox; and Presbytery meetings were also announced.
At the October meeting the Session was informed that Susi Ennis, our seminary
intern, has new learning goals established as part of her internship, which
include preaching a sermon once a semester. The next step in her progression
of fulfilling her call to ministry is to be approved as a Candidate.
Susi Ennis was present at the November meeting for her official consultation
prior to being recommended to the Presbytery that she be enrolled as a Candidate
for ordained ministry.
Committee reports included updates from:
The Christian Education committee on the upcoming Bethlehem Market Place;
Stewardship committee on the Annual Dinner and Talent Show on November 19 and
the showing of An Inconvenient Truth on Nov. 24. Stewardship Elder
also indicated that the movie will be shown again in the spring, in conjunction
with Paul and Cindy Wackerbarths upcoming Sunday school class.
Fellowship committee reported on continued work with the Alpha Program
and the assignment for December Fellowship Hosts for coffee hour:
Dec. 3rd - Choir
Dec. 10th - Women of Knox
Dec. 17th - Men of Knox
Dec. 24th - Concern Group Leaders
Christmas Eve - Cyndi Stevenson
**Note: If you belong to more than one of these groups, it is not necessary
that you help every week with coffee hour for December.
The monthly finance report is available in the Church office.
The Session also discussed ways to be more effective. The first action
was to start publishing summaries of the meetings in the Newsletter.
Please let us know if this is helpful to your understanding of the workings
of the church.
