SESSION NEWS
as posted in the February 2007 newsletter
The Session held its monthly meeting on January 22.
After opening with prayer, committee reports were reviewed.
Special topics on the agenda included the annual review of the church
membership roll (active membership notched up to 100) and approval of the 2007
Church Budget.
Session
voted to increase staff salaries by 3% and recommended that the pastors
salary be increased by 3%.
The 2007 Stewardship Pledge Campaign netted pledges totaling approximately
$171,000. We are still operating with a deficit budget. Our expected net loss
for 2006 was $21,000; but thanks to certain reduced spending and, particularly
during November and December, increased plate collections, the actual deficit
was only $8,600.
Special notice was made of the fact that Betty Evans has served as Receipts
Treasurer since 1982, and has retired from the position as of this month.
Concern group listings have been updated for distribution after the annual
meeting on January 28.
Preparations continue for our second Alpha course, to begin on February
8. Simultaneously, a course of Bible study, A Life Worth Living,
is being offered.
Knox Presbyterian Church has received approval from National Capital Presbytery
for a Transformation Grant of $10,000 for 2007 to initiate or strengthen
programs which can make Knox Church more relevant to our neighborhood. This
is the first year of a three-year grant. Final decisions have not yet been
reached as to how these funds are to be spent.
Several members of our transformation committee attended the quarterly
Transformation Workshop of the National Capital Presbytery on Saturday, January
27.
The monthly meeting of the National Capital Presbytery was a daytime meeting
on Tuesday, January 23.
The next Meeting is scheduled for February 19, 2007.
